I didn't really expect much, given that I was only expected to actually visit the gym once a week at most, and that the sessions only consisted of one set of a single exercise. But, after a few months with Alex, I saw not only increased muscle size, but a better general attitude towards physical activity. It really boosted my confidence, given that I was just a skinny Asian kid, but I noticed a lot more definition in my arms and legs, and better physical endurance too. That, and Alex is wonderful at explaining what works and why: he's always very personable with his responses. His answers are straight-forward, and well explained in real-world context, getting to the very foundation of the question. You'd ask why this exercise works best, and he'd first explain how the muscle group functions, then explain why said exercise is most efficient. And that's what was best with working with Alex. His routine is efficient. In, at most, 10 minutes a week you're capable of seeing real results.

Alex,
Awesome job on the book. I think Mike Mentzer would be proud of this book. To me it is the perfect follow up to Mentzer's Mind & Body HD2 & McGuffs/Little Body by Science.
Very well done.

Alex,
Just wanted to pass along my congratulations on your new book.
Very thought provoking indeed. I enjoyed it immensely but I also believed I gained some new insight and I appreciate the hard work and effort that went into it.
I am looking forward to reinvigorate my training using the principles you describe. Your book has also gotten me to read some of Mike Mentzer's writing, very good indeed. I am still awaiting a copy of Heavy Duty II.
My background is not one of a bodybuilder at all just a normal guy trying to get the most out of my potential. My training background is sporadic at best as my job has me traveling all the time at last minute notices plus I have a history of serius and nagging injuries related to my profession (Disc laminectomies, shoulder/knee tendonitis). But I figure training CORRECTLY will not injure me, I just need to do it carefully.
The biggest hurdle I always seem to have is getting a single set to failure. I generally work out alone (as at my gym people do all the typical multi set/multi angle training)) so I usually do 2 sets as I do not believe I can get to true failure on my own as I bail out on those last "fight or flight" reps because no one is there to assist or push me.
Anyway, just wanted to say congrats on the book and you have one very motivated reader out there who appreciates it.

I was initially turned off by the cover of this book. At first glance it would appear the book is about angels or some new age topic. However, as the description states it is about H.I.T or High Intensity Training, a form of strength training. I have been a follower of HIT for over 15 years. I have read almost all of the books on the topic and have found many that are excellent and others that just plain stink. This particular book is pretty good. While it's lacking in pictures and the format could be better, it does provide a good overview of the author's view of HIT which is based on the works of Mike Mentzer and John Little. I personally find the book cover a little distracting and odd for a strength training / bodybuilding book and I probably would not recommend this title to a beginner of HIT as it is better appreciated by someone already familiar with the principles and training methods.

The HIT library continues to grow. I have pretty much everything written on HIT starting with Jones and ending with this young man. Very logical examination of exercise theory and application with caused me to re-examine how I go to my business in the gym. As a +25 year HIT enthusiast I thought I had pretty much read and understood it all but there are some fresh ideas here as well as convincing arguments. Better yet - since putting into application some of these ideas I am up considerably in strength as well as muscle mass. Tied into the Paleo diet I have adopted I am in the best shape of my 46 years. Bravo for a first effort on this book!

The first time I trained with Alex is when we were both in grade 11 and he had just undergone a rapid transformation due to his newly obtained passion for fitness. At the time I had been very involved in sports at school and had been working out regularly. I thought that the workouts had been intensely transforming back then! Well I wasn't prepared to have my life turned upside down two years later when I resumed training with him after he published his book: Logical H.I.T.: A Means To Fight For Your Greatest Value: Your Happiness, Your Life.

Alex had certainly done his homework when I returned from my first year of university, gaining 18 pounds from inactivity. I ran into Alex at the grocery store and he proposed that I resume training with him at his new gym. I accepted eagerly as I was feeling very self conscious about the state I let my body fall into. When I arrived at his gym I went through the most intense workout I had ever had. After I recovered from this primary training session I was astonished to see how much I had improved after one workout. I lost 18 pounds in a mere 2 weeks and increased my muscle mass to a state I didn't think possible of me.

I am currently in my second year of university and frequently come home for workouts with Alex. Not only has his extremely unique training methods been completely life changing for me physically, they have mentally prepared me to exceed in other aspects of my life. Alex is the most enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated person I have ever had the honor to meet. His passion for weight training and a healthy lifestyle is absolutely contagious. Having trained with Alex from the beginning of his passion for strength training, I have witnessed the continual refinement of his methods until they are now at the point of near perfection. Alex has changed my life and I am forever grateful. The day I bumped into Alex in the grocery store is one I will not be soon to forget. Thank you
